Actually since we are only dealing with ship models, using versions like 6,7,8 of 3d studio max would be fine. You would just need to export the model as a 3DS file. Any textures that were used would just have to be included with your 3DS file (Although I am pretty sure they would want to use the textures from their factions library of textures), and thats about it. You would just need to send it to a dev that has version 5 to use the port. If they choose to use it that is totally up to them
